9NEWS Highlights Voz y Corazón’s Work to Prevent Teen Suicide

Earlier this week, 9NEWS featured a story on Voz y Corazón, a free, culturally responsive support, education, and prevention program designed to prevent teen suicide. The program teaches teens how to recognize and respond to signs of suicide in themselves and their peers. Caring volunteers – local artists and community members – mentor the teens and help them with self-expression through artwork and with developing a healthy bi-cultural identity.  The WellPower is one of many community partners supporting this important program.

“When I learned that suicide was the second leading cause of death for Colorado teens, I knew I had to get involved to try to make a difference,” said Martha Reá, a bilingual case manager at the WellPower who volunteers in her free time as a mentor for Voz y Corazón. Martha appeared with two of the girls she mentors in the 9NEWS segment.
