NY Times Bestselling Author, Tom Rath Kicks Off the WellPower’s 25th Anniversary Speaker’s Series

New York Times bestselling author Tom Rath kicked off the speaker’s series on October 15 with a powerful speech on leadership and wellbeing. The WellPower is a strong proponent of Tom’s work which has become the cornerstone of our wellness culture. Our emphasis on building on the natural strengths of employees and the people we serve is core to our mission. Tom delivered an inspiring speech that was research-backed and offered relatively easy takeaways for people to implement.

Leadership and Wellbeing: How Small Choices Make a Big Difference

Speaking to a group of approximately 150 business and community leaders and friends of the WellPower, Tom shared his research-based tips on how the small choices we make every day have a huge impact on our overall wellbeing.

He cited material and research from his bestselling books, Eat, Move, Sleep; Wellbeing: The Five Essential Elements; StrengthsFinder 2.0 and more. He got the audience laughing and nodding in agreement with his entertaining and compelling presentation about how sleep, nutrition and meaningful connections can create an upward cycle of positivity in all aspects of life.

Creating Sustainable Health and Wellbeing

The three most important takeaways from the evening’s discussion were:

1. Everyday do meaningful work and build on strengths.
2. Invest in people, interactions and relationships.
3. Put your health first to build a culture of health and wellbeing.

Another important point that Tom made to the group is that choices count. Even small, daily decisions about how you eat, move and sleep can greatly improve your odds of a long and healthy life.

Afterwards, many of the audience felt very inspired to live a better life – and the small steps to do so didn’t feel overwhelming. One woman said, “What I liked best was that what Tom advocates just makes sense and he is absolutely right that making better choices everyday can have a profound effect on my life, the lives of my family, my co-workers and more.”

Tom noted that he especially enjoyed his time in Denver; a city he believes has the potential to be “not only a great American city, but a great world city.” He spoke highly of Denver’s commitment to wellness and the WellPower’s vision. A dedicated speaker, Tom spent a lot of time getting to know the WellPower prior to the event. Afterwards, he tweeted to us that he was “… confident your organization will make a major contribution to Denver and is a model for the nation.”

Thanks to Tom Rath for inspiring all of us to live a more meaningful life and to build on our strengths to make Denver stronger.
