The WellPower’s Statement on DACA

The WellPower understands that during these uncertain times there may be anxiety surrounding what may be on the horizon for those holding DACA status. While we may not know what the future holds, we recognize and support the over 15,000 individuals who currently hold Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) status that are living and working in Colorado today, many in our community. DACA recipients are our neighbors, our family, our colleagues and our friends; many are our doctors, our nurses, our military personnel, our essential workers putting themselves on the line today and every day for our health, safety and well-being.

DACA is a 2012 executive order that allows people who were brought to the U.S. illegally as children to work and remain in the United States legally through renewable two-year periods of deferred action from deportation and eligibility for a work permit. According to data from the Center on American Progress, DACA recipients contribute over $42 billion to the U.S. economy annually as well as $113 million dollars in federal taxes and $59 million dollars in state and local taxes.

The WellPower is committed to providing a safe space for our employees and the people we serve who are holding DACA status. It is at the core of our values as an organization that all people are deserving of respect, are able to thrive and have the ability to be a part of our community. The WellPower will continue to monitor any changes in DACA rulings and will take appropriate action to support our employees and the community.
