Have Medicaid? Here's what you can expect from mental health services at WellPower

Medicaid

WellPower provides a full spectrum of outpatient behavioral health care, but what does that mean for the people we serve who have Medicaid insurance?

You can expect to have access to our complete range of services, from "typical" mental health options like therapy, psychiatry and medication management to filling more complex needs, such as case management and residential housing.

Additionally, WellPower offers programs to support education and employment, provide access to basic needs like food and clothing, as well as on-site pharmacies, classes, groups and so much more.

When you use your Medicaid insurance with WellPower, these programs cost you no money because Medicaid pays for your access to them.

Getting started with WellPower is easy

Whether you're ready to begin services with us or just have some questions, you can call us at (303) 504-7900 to get started or learn more about what's available to you.

If you'd like to learn more about mental health and behavioral health (and the difference between the two), click on the button to the left. We cover some of the common misconceptions about mental and behavioral health, what it means to receive services and answer frequently asked questions.

Mental health services for the whole family? Medicaid makes it free for you.

WellPower provides family, individual and group therapy for children, youth and their families in a way that honors and respects each person's lived experience. We offer programs for our youngest community members (ages 0-5) all the way through specialized services to support parents and caregivers, such as grandparents caring for grandchildren.

At WellPower, we see family as more than just individuals or parents and children. Family groups can include caregivers, grandparents, legal guardians, aunts, uncles, foster parents and more. We support all families to ensure that everyone is getting the support they need.

If you and your family have Medicaid insurance, you can all receive services with WellPower at no cost to you.

Medicaid covers all costs associated with behavioral health services, including outpatient therapy, psychiatry and other programs that support your well-being.

If you don’t have Medicaid but would like to see if you could qualify, our community outreach specialists can help.

Give us a call today to learn more about services at WellPower. We're here to help and answer any questions you have.

What do Community Mental Health Centers like WellPower do?

As a Community Mental Health Center (CMHC), WellPower provides all sorts of behavioral health services to the people in our community who need it most. We operate as a "safety net," ensuring that people who need support with their mental health can get the right services to lead fulfilling lives.

For many of the most vulnerable members in our community, the social determinants of health - like housing, healthy food, physical health and of course, mental health - are difficult to manage in the face of challenge after challenge. At WellPower, we understand that recovery is extremely difficult when basic needs aren't met, so we do our very best to help the people we serve find stability and long-term recovery, however that looks for them.

WellPower also knows that people have a wide variety of needs and busy schedules, so we try to make accessing services with us as easy as possible. We offer a large portion of our services, including therapy and psychiatry, online through telehealth appointments.

How does that work with Medicaid?

When a person receiving services with WellPower has Medicaid insurance, they have access to our widest range of services because Medicaid covers the widest range of costs per person.

For example, if you want to access therapy and psychiatry for yourself, family counseling for you and your children, employment support and community classes, you can do all of that using your Medicaid insurance at WellPower.

You're Not Alone: Mental Health Recovery in Denver

"The first thing I learned in therapy is that I should not be alone in my suffering." Meet Marchell Taylor — a Peer Specialist at WellPower. After 47 years without mental health treatment — and without knowing he had a brain injury — Marchell finally found healing. Today he helps others in Denver find the same transformation through peer support.

  • Marchell's journey includes surviving severe mental health challenges and incarceration, followed by recovery and purpose through connection, treatment and lived‑experience support. Today, he uses his story as a peer support specialist at WellPower, helping others feel seen, understood and hopeful by walking alongside them in their own mental health recovery.
  • Peer support at WellPower connects individuals with trained specialists who have lived experience with mental health challenges, offering understanding, encouragement and practical guidance from someone who has “been there,” rather than a purely clinical perspective.
  • Peer support is integrated into WellPower’s broader mental and behavioral health services, including crisis care, outpatient programs and ongoing services, where peer specialists work alongside clinical teams to meet people where they are and walk with them toward their goals.

Medicaid + Mental Health Services = Real Help for Real People

Steph’s lived experience with long‑term mental health challenges—including depression since childhood—was compounded by a rapid series of life‑altering events such as autoimmune disease, long COVID, job loss, divorce and homelessness, highlighting how mental health crises can affect anyone.

  • Hope and persistence are central themes of Steph’s story; despite overwhelming setbacks, they emphasize that major challenges do not mean life is over and that recovery requires personal effort and ongoing support
  • WellPower’s NextChapter program provides integrated psychiatric rehabilitation, offering classes, outings, education, employment support and access to additional services like case management, psychiatry, and housing—all in one coordinated setting.
  • Safe, trauma‑informed environments support healing, and NextChapter’s art room functions as both a creative hub and a mentally and physically secure space where participants can fully experience and express emotions.

For Providers: How to Refer to WellPower

WellPower welcomes referrals from a wide range of community organizations. If you are a Denver-area healthcare provider, business, social services nonprofit, government office or other organization who is looking for mental health resources for the people you serve, we're here for you. Find out more about our referral process by contacting community@wellpower.org. Individuals who are looking for services for themselves or their families can always call our Access line at (303) 504-7900.

What to Expect When You Call the Access Center

To access mental health and behavioral health services at WellPower, the first thing to do is to call us at (303) 504-7900 or, if you are over the age of 18 and have Medicaid insurance, request a phone call by filling out a quick form.

When you speak with a member of our access team, we will ask you questions to learn more about you or your loved one. We'll ask about the reasons you’re calling, as well as some questions about your background, including whether you have the following information:

  • Current and previous treatment information
  • Insurance information, such as whether you have Medicaid, private insurance or are uninsured
  • Social Security number

This will help determine if WellPower is a good fit. After that, our staff help identify which services you or your family member may need.

If you choose to fill out the form, rather than call, you'll have the opportunity to answer the same questions our access team would ask you over the phone. Please note: the form should only be filled out if you are requesting services for yourself, if you are over 18 years old and have Medicaid insurance.
