On Tuesday of this week several staff members, volunteers, and interns from the WellPower’s “NextChapter” program joined with other community health organizations for the annual Auraria Disability Awareness Festival. Held on the grounds of the Metropolitan State University of Denver’s Auraria campus, the event featured live music from visually impaired New Orleans piano legend Henry Butler.
This annual festival promotes greater awareness of and respect for people in the community with disabilities. Partnering organizations this year were:
- The Community College of Denver Center for Persons with Disabilities,
- The University of Colorado,
- Denver Office of Disability Resources and Services,
- Metropolitan State University of Denver Access Center for Disability Accommodations & Adaptive Technology,
- and our own NextChapter in Education and Employment program.
Come back soon for more information about the WellPower’s participation in this year’s festival from staff, volunteers, and interns from the NextChapter program. For now, we hope you’ll enjoy this short clip of Henry Butler playin’ the blues.
