The 15th annual WellPower/Colorado Access recovery conference Stand up Again for Mental Health was held on May 28th at the First Plymouth Congregational Church. This year’s conference featured a keynote from David Granirer, founder of Stand Up For Mental Health, and three WellPower consumers performing stand-up comedy performances about their mental health journeys. In addition, David Granirer provided an instructive and fun interactive session for the audience outside in the courtyard called Connecting with Your Inner Comic, and Roy Wright was awarded the annual Hero’s In Recovery award.
Sally’s Café catered another delicious lunch for the event, followed by an afternoon of several diverse and informative breakout sessions. David Granirer presented a session called Cracking Up, which featured clips from his award winning documentary; and the Art from Ashes organization provided two sessions in which participants wrote short poems and shared their voice with the group. Other breakout topics included: Creating a Recovery Culture, MyStrength, The Recovery Library, and Voices in Recovery.
The free event was again rated very highly by the 231 attendees, comprised of consumers, family members, providers, and others. All told, another great conference, made possible by the energetic efforts of the Recovery Conference Planning Committee, as well as many other employees from Development, IT, NextChapter, Facilities, and others.
