WellPower’s Commitment to Serving Our Community Following State Funding Cuts and the “One Big, Beautiful Bill”

After recent state funding reductions affecting multiple community mental health centers in Colorado, including WellPower, President Trump signed the “One Big, Beautiful Bill Act” into law on July 4.

Among many other effects, this will limit Medicaid and insurance access for as many as 17 million Americans. As an organization that serves many people on Medicaid, we know that our community is concerned about how continued cuts, including those included in this law, will affect our ability to care for those who rely on us most.

We will all learn more over the coming months about how this will impact our work more specifically. Today, here’s what we know:

  • The new law will make it harder for individuals and families to get and keep Medicaid. This will likely result in reduced enrollment and less funding for Medicaid providers like WellPower.
  • Medicaid providers are anticipating challenges in the coming years as we work to adjust to these cuts.
  • While nothing has been decided yet, it is possible that these cuts may result in changes to the programs that WellPower currently offers.

Above all, WellPower is committed to doing everything we can to continue providing high-quality, affordable behavioral health care for anyone in need, especially those who have a harder time accessing it. We have expected these actions for a while and are working hard to be in the best financial place to continue serving our community.

In the event any program changes or closures do happen, our top priority is always to keep care consistent for the people, families and communities we serve. We also do our very best to find new, meaningful roles for staff impacted by program changes or closures.

Funding cuts are not new to community mental health centers like WellPower, even though they bring many challenges. We are working hard to adjust and our staff continue to help people we serve get and keep Medicaid benefits for which they are eligible. No matter what happens, our mission and values won’t change. Life-saving health care should be there for all, and we will do everything possible to assist people we serve and our staff through this time.

We thank our staff, partners and the people we serve for your dedication, resilience and compassion. We will continue to stand together with our community and reaffirm the value of the care we provide.
